Overview of Projects

Below are short descriptions of my current projects with links to more detailed descriptions. Feel free to contact me for additional information.

Balu‘a Regional Archaeology Project (BRAP)

Khirbat al-Balu‘a is a large site on the northern Karak Plateau in central Jordan. I am Field Director of the Islamic Village Excavations at the site.

Edom Lowlands Regional Archaeology Project (ELRAP)

ELRAP was a “deep-time” study of settlement and copper exploitation in and around the Faynan region of southern Jordan. I currently serve as publication lead for the Roman and Islamic period excavations conducted by the project.

al-Humayma

al-Humayma is located in the southern highlands of Jordan, ca. 60 km northeast of al-’Aqaba and ca. 40 km south of Petra. I am currently working on bringing the 1992-2002 excavations of Field F103 (the ‘Abbasid family qasr) to final publication.

Sugar Production in the Levant

One key focus of my research has been medieval sugar production in the southern Levant. So far, this research has primarily focused on the compilation of a gazetteer of sites related to sugar production in the Levant and reanalysis of finds from the 1982-1983 excavations at Yesud HaMa‘ala, a sugar production site in the Hula Valley.
